. MODENA VOLLEYBALL AND "ONE PIECE" ARE READY TO SAILS OFF TOGETHER!
 |
Like the past season, this year Modena Volleyball presents a new partnership for the libero's t-shirts. "One Piece", one of the most appreciated animation series in Italy, is the new character for the Libero uniform. The operation has been possible thanks to the excellent and long-time established relationship between the licensing agency Backstage and TOEI Animation.
Pietro Rinaldi and Edoardo Ciabattini, the two liberos of Trenkwalder Modena, will put themselves in the shoes of Rubber, the young dreamy pirate who has the power to elongate himself and change shape as he likes and who wants to become "King of the pirates". In order to do that he will have to get his hands on every pirate's desire: the legendary treasure "One Piece".
A crew of six friends will help him in his quest (6 + 1, just like a volleyball team!).
Adventure and bravery, positive values and team spirit, ambition and commitment, dreams and hopes: Toei Animation and Trenkwalder Modena share goals and projects.
Rinaldi and Ciabattini are ready to "sail the ship" of Trenkwalder Modena for a new exciting adventure!
"One Piece", known in Italy as "All'arrembaggio", is a Shonen Manga (a kind of Manga addressed to male audience and mainly focused on action and fighting that stresses the importance of characters' strength) by Eiichiro Oda, which made his début in Japan in 1997 and was first published in Italy in 2001 by Star Comics. A monthly reprint called "One Piece New Edition" started in January 2008 and is still positively running. It's important to emphasise that "One Piece" Manga is the second best sold product by Star Comics.
From the successful comics in 1999 Toei Animation created and produced an anime that has recently gone over 370 episodes. In Italy the first 196 have been broadcasted in the past and on July the 9th 2008 Mediaset started to air 102 previously unreleased episodes (from the 197th to the 298th). At the moment it's the most seen animation series after the Simpsons. In September the average number of viewers per day was 2.2 million (it's broadcasted from Monday to Friday at 2 pm on Italia 1).
Also 9 animated movies one hour each long have been produced, one every year, by TOEI Animation and some of them have been showed by Mediaset.
Plot
Rubber is a young dreamy pirate who unknowingly ate the devil's fruit Gomu Gomu no Mi when he was young. That has made him elastic and allowed him to elongate and change into any shape he wants, but at the expense of the ability to swim. He sailed off to the sea because he longs of becoming "King of the pirates". In order to achieve that he will have to find the legendary "One Piece", the magnificent treasure that was left by the mythical pirate Gold Roger on the island of Raftel, at the end of the Major Route, and that has never been discovered and it's every pirate's dream. During his adventures Rubber will gather a mixed crew of people and he will find himself in situations as bizarre and extravagant as those characters, both friends and enemies, who are present in the world that surrounds him. They often reach absurd and grotesque levels and they give a surreal and funny atmosphere.
Characteristics of the series
"One Piece" is an animated series that combines the adventurous soul typical of the pirates' universe, characterised by mysteries and treasures to discover, with original fantastic elements that are trademarks of the Japanese tradition (for example the Rubber's ability to be elastic as a result of having eaten a certain fruit).
From this combination comes an extremely entertaining series, sometimes a bit surreal, but always compelling and enthralling for the audience. The Japanese great ability to depict fascinating characters provides the additional element that contributes to the cartoon's television success. Beside from the ironic and sarcastic characteristics, its naughty features, which are present in both the comics and the cartoons, the main strength of "One Piece" are, oddly enough, its values. Determination, friendship, force, initiative and justice are some of the key themes of this incredibly exciting story.
Actually Rubber's crew, even if it's been gathered in a rather random and casual way, ends up being a group of people all fundamental because of their personal skills (a cook, a sailor, a swordsman, a doctor, etc.). Through many adventures they become a cohesive team and this not only thanks to the treasure's hunt, but also and especially because of their mutual loyalty, solidarity and friendship.
In the end these are exactly the elements that manage to draw the characters away from their funniest side and transform them in real invincible fighters. Together they can overcome any enemy or difficulty, showing a brilliant example of team spirit and willingness to make sacrifices for the group.
Finally from Elichiro Oda's precise and full of fascinating details graphics comes one of the most compelling stories of all time, able to constantly combine funny and serious elements, ridiculous and dramatic events.
The final result is to unite not to confound: like all heroes, Rubber and his friends know very well when it's time to be serious. And when they come into action they are invincible.
