29.10.2008 - TOMORROW, ON THURSDAY THE 30TH, TENCATI AND MURILO TALK TO THE PRESS

Tomorrow, on Thursday the 30th of October, Trenkwalder Modena athletes Luca Tencati and Murilo Endres will be talking to the press at the press room of Palasport G. Panini in Modena at 11.30 am.
28.10.2008 - TRENKWALDER AT WORK. SPORTS DIRECTOR CAPONI SPEAKS. LAST DAYS FOR THE SEASON TICKETS

Trenkwalder Modena came back to the sports club this morning, on Tuesday the 28th of October. A double training session at Palasport Giuseppe Panini for Andrea Giani's guys. After the defeat in Piacenza they're focusing on next Sunday's away match, on the 2nd of November against Bre Banca Lannutti in Cuneo. "We shouldn't dramatise the defeat in Piacenza, but yes, we should think it out - Sports director of Modena Volleyball Leonardo Caponi explains - We worked well during the week, we didn't expect this kind of performance. I'm a bit disappointed by the combative attitude of the team, it feels a bit bitter since we're all sure we're worth more than this and we know we can do better. We'll meet internally with the technical staff and the players today: we want to understand exactly what went on in Piacenza. I don't want this match to waste anything else, we need to understand what went wrong to avoid making these mistakes again and to get better again. We have to recover right away and score points for the classification. Cuneo? We have two other very difficult matches ahead against Cuneo and Trento. Bre Banca is a complete and extremely strong team, but I would like to see us play in Cuneo and go for it. I want to emphasise how willing the guys are to redeem. The Championship? All the strongest teams are in it, I'm not even surprised to see a balanced and strong team like Montichiari in the top and also Pineto is doing really well." 25.10.2008 - ON SUNDAY COPRA PIACENZA WILL PLAY AGAINST TRENKWALDER MODENA (6:30 PM ON SKY SPORT). TOMASINI SAYS: "THE TEAM IS FOCUSSED"

It's all ready for the fifth day of the A1 TIM league. On Sunday the 26th Trenkwalder Modena will play an interesting and difficult game against one of the best teams in the league, Copra Nordmeccanica, coached by Angelo Lorenzetti (who has coached Cimone Volley in the past).
In the meantime Andrea Giani, head coach of the blue and yellow team, has come back to Modena after entering the Volleyball Hall of Fame at Holyoke (USA) on Thursday evening.
This week all the training sessions were led by Giani's assistant coach, Andrea Tomasini, who has always been in touch with his head coach. "It's been a good week," says Tomasini, "we have worked well. We have constantly been focussed and this means the team is strong and ready to play. The team has helped in managing the training sessions successfully and I have made sure they were involved in preparing the match against Piacenza. Copra Nordmeccanica is a good team, well-organised and made up of skilfull players. On top of that, it's quite a versatile team, since it can deploy a number of different line-ups, making good use of all its players--as it has done in the past. However, we will be focussed on the way we play; we're well aware of our strengths and we wish to improve on a daily basis. What's the key to win this game? Piacenza is an aggressive team and they serve very well. We can serve well too, though... And then, as we said during the week, we're working hard to keep the number of errors to a minimum. Angel Dennis? He's working with enthusiasm and he's getting better, even though he's still not back in shape. We'll see whether or not we'll ask him to play against Piacenza".

Radio and TV. On Sunday the 26th Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza-Trenkwalder Modena will start at 6:30 pm and will be broadcast on Sky Sport 2 and by Radio Bruno (103.8 and on www.radiobruno.it).

24.10.2008 - ANDREA GIANI IN THE VOLLEYBALL HALL OF FAME: "I WAS OVERWHELMED: I ALMOST CRIED"

Andrea Giani has officially entered the Volleyball Hall of Fame!
Yesterday Giani took part in the Induction Ceremony in Holyoke, Massachusettes (USA), where William G. Morgan invented volleyball in 1985. He is now into the ark of glory, a rare honour, reserved for those who have contributed to shape the history of international volleyball. Two days of amazing emotions, lived by Giani together with his wife Emanuela, his brother in law Gabriele and the Markenting Manager of Pallavolo Modena, Johnny Poppi. In the Class of 2008 there are also the Japanese Masae Kasai Nakamura (captain of the Japanese national team which won the gold medal at the Olympic games in Tokio in 1964), the Ukrainian Yuriy Poyarkov (captain of the Ukrainian national team which won the gold medal at the Olympic games in Tokio in 1964), and the American Randy Stoklos (beach volleyball). The Volleyball Hall of Fame's Class of 2008 also includes the Turkish Sinan Erdem and the Russian Vladimir Savvine (both posthumously), who were selected in the official/administrator category.

"It's been one of the most exciting moments in my career. It was amazing: I didn't think I could have been so moved. I had to read the English speech I had prepared because my voice was trembling. Then everybody stood up and clapped their hands; I almost cried. All the inductees were overwhelmed. We were "breathing" the history of volleyball: it was such an incredible honour! I wish to thank all those people who were there for me throughout my career".

All the staff and athletes of pallavolo Modena say congrats to Andrea Giani!

Andrea Giani will get back to Italy tonight and tomorrow will be at Palasport Giuseppe Panini in Modena to lead his team's training session.
On Sunday the blue and yellow team will play the fifth match of the season (A1 professional league) in Piacenza against Copra Nordmeccanica (6:30 pm on Sky Sport 2).

23.10.2008 - ANDREA GIANI, HEAD COACH OF TRENKWALDER MODENA, AND THE "VOLLEYBALL HALL OF FAME": DAY 1

"It's amazing, a once-in-a-lifetime feeling", says Andrea Giani--an icon of Italian and international volleyball and head coach of Trenkwalder Modena--while getting ready to enter the Hall of Fame. Yesterday Giani arrived in Holyoke, Massachusettes (USA), where William G. Morgan invented volleyball in 1985. And yesterday, together with his wife Emanuela, his brother in law Gabriele and the Markenting Manager of Pallavolo Modena, Johnny Poppi, Giani got his "first taste" of the Hall of Fame. In the morning, at the Country Inn and Suites Hotel in Holyoke, Giani met the other three players who will be inducted in the Class of 2008: the Japanese Masae Kasai Nakamura, the Ukrainian Yuriy Poyarkov and the American Randy Stoklos (beach volleyball). The Volleyball Hall of Fame's Class of 2008 will also include the Turkish Sinan Erdem and the Russian Vladimir Savvine (both posthumously), who were selected in the official/administrator category.
The players had lunch together at Mount Holyoke College Campus in South Hadley (a few kms from Holyoke), where they had the chance to know each other and enjoyed the beautiful surrounding scenery. In the afternoon they were welcomed by the Mayor of Holyoke, Michael J. Sullivan, they met the American media and were interviewed by the Hall of Fame--these long interviews, called "Volleyball in Prospective", will become part of the Hall of Fame official archives. Later this evening (Italian time) there will be the official Induction Ceremony into the Volleyball Hall of Fame: Andrea Giani, who has won two silver medals and one bronze medal at the Olympic games and three World Championship titles (not to mention his victories with Italy's Men's national team and with Parma and Modena) will finally become a member of that illustrious "family" which has contributed to shape the history of volleyball.
As Doug Beal, Co-Chair of the Selection Committee, has said while explaining the reasons for Giani's induction, "Giani was probably Italy's most versatile player in the era of specilisation".

PALASPORT G.PANINI (MODENA) - This afternoon Trenkwalder Modena has won (3-1) the training match played against the German Friedrichshafen, a team which takes part in the Champions League. On this occasion Andrea Tomasini was head coach for the first time, since Andrea Giani is currently in the U.S. to enter the Volleyball Hall of Fame. Tomasini made every one of his athletes play at least two sets, but the initial line up saw Travica-Kooistra, Murilo-Dennis, Sidao-Lee and Rinaldi playing libero. "I am quite satisfied", says Tomasini. "We are working hard to keep the number of errors as low as possible. I think Piacenza is a good team, very versatile, since its head coach, Lorenzetti, is a pro and is able to change his team according to the needs. For our part, we'll be concentrating on ourselves and on the way we play. Indeed, if we do what we are supposed to do any team would have to struggle to win against us; this was definitely true for the match against Treviso.
Next Sunday, October the 26th, Trenkwalder Modena will play in Piacenza against Copra Nordmeccanica (6:30 pm on Sky Sport 2).

The Hall of Fame is located in Holyoke, Massachusettes, where William G. Morgan invented volleyball in 1895 at Holyoke YMCA 8.
