09.09.2008 - TRAVICA AND SMUC, THE CONTROL OF TRENKWALDER IS FOR YOU... FIRST LIVE BROADCASTS SKY

They are the "conductors of the Gialloblù orchestra" and they will be given the control of the Trenkwalder Modena 2008/2009. Dragan Travica and Tomislav Smuc: the first a young Italian talent, the second a more experienced Slovenian. This morning, just before leaving for Turku (Finland), where Modena will play an international four-sided tournament, we met with the two setters of Trenkwalder. "Quantity, intensity and quality: I would define the first three months of training in Modena with these three words - underlines Dragan Travica, 22-year-old setter, 2 metres tall, born in Zagreb but completely Italian and the main actor in the summer with the national team of Andrea Anastasi - We're working so hard and with so much enthusiasm, we could say that the great physical part is partly done already, now we will concentrate on everything implied by "creating" a team and obviously improve our athletic condition. We are a very close group and we train because we really want to grow on both an individual and a team level. I already knew Giani as a person and as a team-mate and I never have had any doubts about him. Although I have to admit that's he's pleasantly surprising me: he is very prepared, serene and sure of what he passes on to us. It's not easy to find all of this in a trainer: we don't ever do anything randomly, every training is engaging and prepared into detail and we players are being reassured by great technical and physical staff that's following us in every move. Giani "makes life difficult for us" in the positive meaning of the word: advice, teaching, details, anything that can help to improve. The team is growing every day and at the moment we are also awaiting two real quality players with a lot of experience; Murilo and Lee. I have to say I'm very sorry for Dennis' injury. To us Angel is a fundamental player: he never pulls back in any training, he has a lot of quality, he entertains me and he entertains the team. Angel is a "silent" player, but very keen on redemption: when he comes back he will do great things. But I also want to say that Mark Siebeck surprised me: I didn't know him very well and I have discovered a player with very good technical skills. The National Championship? For me it's an aim, I am very attached to the national team, but I don't think about it, I mean, I'm aware of the fact that the National Championship is a consequence of how I play for the team in Modena - finishes Dragan Travica who has already played in Modena, both in the youth and the first team from 2003 to 2005. Tomislav Smuc arrived in Modena in the middle of last season and renewed his contract over the Summer and also the coming season he will be playing in Gialloblù: "I'm very happy to be here: I feel very well in Modena and the team is very strong - the Slovenian setter, born in 1976 in Ljubljana and 188cm tall, says - I know very well that Dragan is the first setter and I''m the second, but I work every part of the day to help him and the team. Trenkwalder has changed a lot, there are a lot of new players, there's a great wish for redemption. Our aim? First growing every day, playing a nice volleyball and then getting in the first eight of the Coppa Italia and then in the play-offs: at which point anything could happen...". The first live broadcasts on Sky TV are official. Trenkwald will start on Monday night on the 29th of September for the first day in Montichiari against Acqua Paradiso starting at 8.30 pm on Sky Sport 2. Trenkwalder Modena goes live again on the third day, the 12th of October. The match Marmi Lanza Verona-Trenkwalder Modena will be broadcast on Sky Sport 2 starting at 6.30 pm. Coach: Angelò Lorenzetti Referees: Alberto Falzoni of Bologna and Patrizia Ruffano of Modena Spectators: about 200 Notes. Trenkwalder Modena: 15 serve errors, 3 aces. Serve reception: 64% pos. and 35% perf. Attacks: 41%. Blocks: 14 Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza: 19 serve errors, 6 aces. Serve reception: 72% pos. and 24% perf. Attacks: 50%. Blocks: 6 PALAPANINI (MODENA) - Two hours of good volleyball even though the teams are still "under construction", not complete and in a period of hard physical work. The spectators of Palasport Giuseppe Panini in Modena enjoyed themselves today with this friendly test between Trenkwalder and Copra Nordmeccanica. In the end Piacenza (that is still waiting for Meoni, Rak and Zlatanov) won from Modena (without Sidao, Dennis, Lee and Murilo) the former being more "cynical" in a few crucial moments of the game. Some of the positively remarkable aspects of Modena were the good introduction of German hitter Siebeck and the 6 personal blocks of Tencati; for Piacenza Falasca (17 points) and Marshall (16) were the most piercing ones. Andrea Giani (coach of Trenkwalder Modena): "It was a nice match and a good test. I think the two teams showed a good playing level for the beginning of September. Perhaps we missed something in the defence and replay, but I'm satisfied with the job we're doing and I'm happy about the teamwork. Siebeck? I already knew him and he's confirming to be a really complete player." Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Copra Piacenza): "It's the first appearance of the season and we can be happy. Like all the teams we're working very hard at the moment too, but I repeat, the guys have a positive attitude and we're keeping up with the program. We're waiting for the other guys to be able to train wholly." TENCAT AND PAGNI. Both really feel like coming back and both are enjoying the training with Trenkwalder 2008/2009 that's preparing for the beginning of the championship. Luca Tencati and Filppo Pagni, established Italian centrals of last season and ready to take off again. We met them today in the Gialloblù home base. "Last year was not an easy year, both for me personally, partly due to physical problems, but also for the team: today both me and the team are very motivated and feel like setting off again - underlines Filippo Pagni - we're training very well, we really like and enjoy training together. There are four of us centrals (Pagni, Tencati, Sidao and Lee, ed) and my aim is to train maximally every day and make myself available to Giani for the good of the team. I'm convinced this team can get far." The same determination for Luca Tencati: "I am also very motivated and really feel like doing an important season - "Tenca" says - it's a feeling the whole team exudes: of course only the field will show what we're worth, but for now we are working very well and we are very confident about our capacities. I like the team: there are so many young people that give a lot of energy and some more experienced that certainly don't count less. I'm fine physically: I'm rested, I let my knee rest and I started off well now. The National team at the Olympic games? I think Italy played a good Olympics. They didn't get a medal, perhaps that what's missing for calling it an extraordinary Olympics. But some where unluckily injured and the level of our game was always good anyway. I think everybody can and should feel good about these Olympics." SUNDAY AT PALANDERLINI: EUROTECNICA SDP MODENA-STANFORD UNIVERSITY The first stop of the journey through Italy of the men's volleyball team of the prestigious stanford University (Palo Alto, San Francisco, California) will be the "Volleyball Academy" of the Scuola di Pallavolo Anderlini di Modena (Modena Anderlini Volleyball School). The Scuola di Pallavolo Anderlini, youth section of Trenkwalder Modena and absolutely one of the forefront centres of international youth volleyball, will host the guys of the American university from Saturday the 6th to Tuesday the 9th of September. A very dashing experience and an exchange between two "schools" of the highest level in the world. On Sunday the 7th of September at 5 pm there will be a friendly match between Eurotecnica Sdp Modena that's playing in Junior League Under 20 and B2 Series trained by Claudio Benedetti and Stanford University at Palanderlini di Modena (Via Vellani Marchi 106 in Modena). By the way Miguel Groppi from Modena (son of the former volleyball player Mercedes Gonzalez) studies and plays at Stanford University, after having won a grant at the end of high school, he's setter in the Stanford University team. Michele couldn't join his teammates on their tour through Italy and "his" Modena for study reasons. This year Groppi is in his fourth and last year at stanford University and he will be the only one in the team to get his degree with honours, and he's following a special studying course at Stanford University right now.

03.09.2008 - MARK SIEBECK WEARS GIALLOBLU': "I CAN'T WAIT TO BEGIN..."

He just arrived in town and already he can't wait to begin training. This morning the official presentation of one of the new purchases of Trenkwalder Modena: the German Mark Siebeck. Left-handed receiving hitter, Siebeck just came back from the Olympic experience in Beijing with the German national team, while last season he was in Turkey at Alkbank Ankara (Modena's opponent in last year's Challenge Cup) together with another new Gialloblù purchase, the American Olympic champion David Lee. This morning the director of Arbe Industrie Grafiche Riccardo Bertolini and general director of Pallavolo Modena Pietro Pela were present at Arbe Industrie Grafiche, the prestigious commercial partner and fellow traveller of Pallavolo Modena. And of course Mark Siebeck was there: "I'm very happy to be in Modena - underlined Siebeck, whose family will join him in Modena over the next weeks - When I was offered to come to Italy, and especially to Modena, I decided immediately: it was an opportunity I didn't want to let go. My friend Robert Kromm, who is German too, has been here and Cristian Verona (skilled athlete from Modena in the German national team) said good things to me about the city, the organisation and the place in general. They told me that the organisation creates optimal conditions for you to think about volleyball only, that the quality of life in Modena is very good and that also the fans are special. I repeat, I'm very happy to be in such a prestigious company as Modena. Andrea Giani? I already spoke to him and I got an excellent impression from him. And I want to add: it's an honour to be trained by one of the greatest players ever as Giani. What kind of player I am? Many say I'm a player that can give balance to a team, I think I am good at receiving and attacking. I also try to be sharp in my service. The Olympics and the National team. I have to say that Beijing was a fantastic experience and we're all proud, because the German national volleyball team hadn't been at the Olympics in forty years. As for the national team (that won't have the technical Moculescu on the bench anymore, ed) I will relax this Summer with my family, and then we will see. In the meantime I think about Modena, I can't wait to start!". Name: Mark Siebeck Born in Schkeuditz (Germany) on 14/10/1975 Position: Hitter Length: 196 cm Sportive CV: · 1989-1998 Sc Leipzig (Germany): from the youth sector to the first team playing for the first time in the Bundesliga (the German A1 Series) · 1998-2000 VFB Friedrichshafen (Germany): conquering 1 German Cup, 1 Bundesliga final, a 2nd and 3rd place in the Champions League · 2000-2002 VV Leipzig (Germany) · 2002-2006 AZS Olsztyn (Poland): conquering two championship finals and 2 finals of the Polish Cup · 2006/2007 AZS Warshaw (Poland) · 2007/2008 Halkbank Ankara (Turkey): conquering the final championship shield. · From 1999 Siebeck is part of the German National team with which he just participated in the Olympics in Beijing 2008. He played over 140 times with the National team. In the picture: Riccardo Bertolini (Arbe Indutrie Grafiche), Pietro Pela (Pallavolo Modena) and the new purchase Mark Siebeck

01.09.2008 - OLYMPIC GOLD DAVID LEE: "I CAN'T WAIT TO ARRIVE IN MODENA!"

He will arrive in Modena next week and he will arrive with a golden medal around his neck and very enthusiastic to start the Gialloblù adventure. David Cameron Lee was one of the absolute stars of the Olympics in Beijing 2008: best central, by far, of the United States that conquered gold at the Olympics, David appeared to be the best blocker of the games (first in the list of best blockers with 33 blocks, second on the list was the Brazilian Gustavo with 29 blocks). As said before David will disembark in Modena within a couple of days, in the meantime we spoke with him while he was in California for a few days for a well earned break. Goodmorning and compliments David! Tell us about the Olympic adventure... "The games were incredible. We were in China for about a month: in the first meeting against Venezuela we played five sets and ran the risk of losing, while the games went on we played better and better, day after day. We finished the pool winning all matches: that's when we started to realise we could win the golden medal." What was the most difficult moment of the games and what the most distressing? "The match against Russia in the semifinals: that was both the most difficult and most distressing moment. The match finished with four consecutive points by me and especially the last one was one of my blocks. A very special block..." What did you expect before the Olympics? And who do you dedicate the victory to? "Before the Olympics started I wanted to win them! But of course I knew, and the whole team knew that, we would play against teams like Brazil, Russia, Italy, Poland and Bulgaria: we knew the games would be difficult, but we wanted to try... I would like to dedicate the victory to my family who has been with me in China for the whole period of the Olympic games." Also on a personal level you played fantastic games... "Let's say I played with a constant performance and above that I played some important games at important moments. I am very happy I played in a great team like that of the United states and against great champions." Can you tell us about the feelings of an Olympic experience: an experience that doesn't only regard sports... "There is something very special about playing at the Olympics, its a unique feeling. The Olympic village passes a positive energy on to to all athletes. You live close to people from all over the world with the same goals: that creates an incredible feeling for getting to know and interact with the people around you. Let's move on to your next adventure in Italy and Modena: what do you expect? "For now I tell you that I can't wait any longer, I am so much looking forward to arriving in Modena: a club with an incredible history, I'm proud I'm going to play for this club." Your teammate in the National team Lloy Ball, played in Modena (winning the national championship in 2002): what did Lloy tell you about Modena? "That I should go to Modena. That Modena is a fantastic city and that, amongst other things, it's a fascinating city both for the culture and the food. What do you think of Trenkwalder 2008/09? "Trenkwalder will be the best club I ever played for, there is an immense number of talented players. I know quite some of my new teammates because they're famous all over the world. Last year with Ankara (where another new purchase of Modena was in his team: the German Marc Siebeck, ed), my former club, we also played against Modena in the Challenge Cup. And about Andrea Giani: he was one of the strongest players ever, everybody knows him. I asked Ball to tell me about Giani and Lloy said Andrea is also a phenomenal person. It is an honour being trained by him, playing with great teammates and being part of the team of Modena." Finally, what would you like to say to your fans in Modena? "They told me Modena has the best fans in Italy: I can't wait to play at PalaPanini and I hope the fans will be by our side." Name: David Cameron Lee Born in Alpine (California) on the 8th of March 1982 Position: central. Height: 203 cm In the picture the new central of Trenkwalder Modena David Lee (second from the right), together with some friends at the Anaheim White House Restaurant (sponsor of the American National volleyball team) at Anaheim in California. In the picture you can also see the Italian owner of the restaurant Bruno Serato from Verona (first from the left) and Italian actor Walter Nudo (second from the left) who is wearing Lee's golden medal around his neck.
